Who doesn’t love winning competitions, getting free stuff or even free samples?
Be honest. It’s a simple, easy and fun form of advertising. However, companies don’t give away products for fun but use free samples, or sampling, with strategic promotion in mind. These types of promotion are nothing new. We can walk through our local store and sample bite size pieces of food.

Every time I go to a specific store I ‘sample’ at least 2-3 pieces of Feta, avocado (if in season), olives and strawberries in Summer. Hey, it’s a self-serve salad bar right next to the fruit & veg section. We can buy washing powder with a free trial size bottle of fabric softener attached. We can go online and request free samples of hair colourant, biscuits or fruit juice to be sent to us in the mail to test.

One of the goals of product sampling is to cultivate positive brand attitudes in potential customers. The fact that they’re giving you something for nothing gets a positive response. Sampling and competitions are the first step in getting people to not only recognize the brand but also remember it in a positive light. While positive attitudes towards a brand are great, it is the future purchase that is the goal. That’s why so many competitions require you to purchase the item before you can enter.

Premium Prizes advertises free online competitions as well as those that require registration, to send an sms’, to enter in-store or purchase a competition advertised on-pack. A competition is a competition no matter where or how it is advertised. If the promotion and the product are successful, consumers are likely to purchase the product.

Competitions and sampling can have another positive affect for brands: word of mouth and virality. People are generally excited to receive free products and they’ll talk about it. They win a competition and they tell everyone. Online. Via social media platforms. Free advertising. Priceless. Take a moment to look on your friends’ Facebook Pages for social share competitions in their timeline, #hashtags on Twitter and photos of stuff they’ve won on Instagram. You’ll see their excitement.

We’re bringing the competitions, promotions and special offers to you. You don’t have to look everywhere online for them.
